March 24, 2011 (Happy 10th Anniversary Becky & Jeff!)
It took about 35 minutes to walk to Buccaneer Resort along the main road heading east out of town. We walked to the highest point of the property which happened to be their main restaurant and took in the view. We reckoned that walking along the shoreline could be a short cut back to the boat and it looked like there was a road or path along one of the hills in the distance. Capt. Dan asked "Do you feel adventurous?" Say no more!
First, though, I insisted that we buy more water, some sweet and salty snacks, and band-aids for the new blisters on my heels. We walked along the beach until it turned into rocky cliffs. Half way up the hill from there is where we saw the outline of a road, so we made our way upward through armpit high grass. Unfortunately, it was NOT a road, but a chain link fence topped with some razor wire.
Plan B- we probably could climb around the rocky coast…and we did until I noticed another grassy hilltop above us that looked promising. We made our way up a steep, rocky slope and proceeded to follow a rough goat path until we could make our way back down to a familiar beach. It was a short cut after all, shaving five minutes off of the trip.
